Preparing for Your Consultation
-
You’ll be emailed an invitation to your consultant’s Google Calendar.
Select the “Yes” button or the "Yes" beside “Going?” (found at the bottom of that invitation email). Provided your calendar settings allow for email notifications, you should then receive automatic email reminders from Google Calendar approximately 8 days and 1 day before your meeting provided your calendar settings allow for email notifications. (Click here to see a screen capture of the YES button in an email.)
Please also ensure this meeting is added to your personal calendar as payment in full is required for missed meetings. Should you need to cancel or reschedule, 72 hours notice is required.
-
Please review your invoice upon receipt and settle your invoice at least one week prior to your consultation.
Invoices are sent from our payment processor, PayPal, to the email address with which you booked your consultation or service with the subject line: Invoice from Dazed and Confucius Consulting. To view, pay, download a PDF of, or print your invoice, select the “View and Pay Invoice” button in that email.
All payments are processed through PayPal. You do not need to register for a PayPal account to make a payment:
View your invoice by clicking on the invoice link in your consultation confirmation email. Eg. “Invoice #_____ / Payment due ___”
At the top right of the invoice, under "Amount due", you'll see "Other ways to pay". Click the black button that says " Debit or Credit Card "
The area will expand to allow you to enter your credit card details. Then select the blue “Pay $__” button.
You can use a Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit card, or Visa Debit Card to pay via PayPal’s payment processing system. If you have a PayPal account, you can also make a payment with it.
Our abbreviated name on your banking / credit card statement will be DZCONFUCIUS.
Please note that full payment is required for missed appointments or meetings not cancelled or rescheduled at least 72 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting time.
-
To prepare for the consultation, please complete our Dazed and Confucius Pre-consultation Form, ideally 7 days prior to your appointment.
If this is your first consultation, please complete all fields in the form.
If this is a follow up consultation, completing the form is optional. If you have updates, you may complete any fields that will be relevant to the topics you wish to discuss with your consultant and leave blank any that do not require updates.
During a 60-min Consultation, a wide range of topics can often be covered. For a 30-min Consultation, it is recommended that you have specific topics you’d like to discuss to make the most of this shorter session.
Shortly after submitting the form, a copy of your responses should be sent by forms-receipts-noreply@google.com to the email address you’ve provided within the form. The subject line will be, “Dazed & Confucius Pre-consultation Form”.
-
If there are images that you'd like to have for review that may not be on your website or social media pages, such as works in progress, detail images, studio shots, etc., please upload them to a Dropbox folder or a Google Docs folder.
Please upload no more than 20 images and limit the file size of each image to 1MB (1024 KB).
Send an invitation to view this folder to the consultant you’ll be meeting with:

All consultation bookings are non-refundable within 72 hours of the scheduled meeting time. Payment is due in full for missed meetings.
In the event of illness, we are happy to move your in-person consultation to an online consultation (same date/time) with 24 hours notice. Please contact both your consultant and info@dazedandconfucius.com to ensure your message is received prior to your scheduled appointment time.
The Day of Your Consultation
-
While your consultation will be tailored specifically to you, you can generally expect that the session will begin by reviewing the information you’ve sent via the Pre-Consultation Form and the images/documents you may have sent via Dropbox and Google Docs. For in-person meetings, you may also bring in a few small original pieces, if you wish.
In your time together, your consultant will look at your work with you and offer a critique of what's working and what's not, discussing some goals to make a plan for the near future.
To make the most of your session, we suggest having high priority topics or questions ready for your consultant. Please consider taking notes during your meeting. If you’d like to record the session, please let the consultant know ahead of time. We ask that you please not share your recording publicly.
NOTE: Should you need to contact us within 24 hours of your consultation, it’s ideal to contact your Consultant directly as your message may otherwise not be be seen prior to your appointment time. To reschedule or cancel your session, please refer to our cancellation policy above.

If you’re new to Zoom, here are some quick videos that share how to configure your video and audio, and share your screen.
What to expect at your Online Consultation.
Prior to your meeting, your consultant will have reviewed your Pre-Consultation Form, website, social platforms, and any images you will have sent them via Dropbox or Google Drive (such as detail shots, images of your work in situ, works in progress, etc.). They will have those images at the ready during your consultation.
In an online consultation, you’ll share a screen with your consultant so you’re both able to view the same sites and images at the same time. You can also hold works up to the screen to show them detail and share your work space should you be in your studio for the consult.
For all online consultations, please ensure you are in a space with a strong internet connection for your consultation, that you have an updated browser, and have closed any unnecessary programs.
For best results, a desktop or laptop computer is ideal, providing you with a larger screen and often reasonably good sound quality for your microphone and speakers. If this is not an option, you may be able to work with a mobile device such as a tablet or your phone if necessary, but these devices are generally not optimal.
If you’d like to record the session, please let the consultant know ahead of time. We ask that you please not share your recording publicly.

IN-PERSON WITH PENNYLANE SHEN
Pennylane will meet with you at her office space, unless other arrangements have been made.
Pennylane’s office is located at 204-1000 Parker Street, in the Parker Street Studios building in Vancouver.
There is normally street parking within a couple of blocks of the building, and there is a bike rack out front. The #22 bus route stops within two blocks of the building.
The entry to the building is on George Street, via the glass door off the loading dock. Walk down the hall then up one flight of stairs and you find Studio 204 directly to your right.
Note: If the glass door is locked, you may enter the building using the Enterphone system, located to the right of the door. Use the # key to scroll up the directory to find “Pennylane Shen 204”, then press the Call key. Pennylane will then buzz you into the building. If you’re not able to connect through the Enterphone, please text Pennylane at 778.999.7436.
IN-PERSON WITH DAVID ELLINGSEN
David will meet with you at his office space, unless other arrangements have been made.
David's office is located in his Victoria home studio at 3017 Millgrove Street.
There is always lots of street parking. If you’re travelling by bicycle, just bring it around with you to the studio. The #8, #9, and #11 bus routes stop on Gorge Road W at Millgrove, about a block from the studio; and the #21, #22, and #26 bus routes stop on Burnside Road W at Millgrove about two blocks from the studio.
When you arrive, come around to the backyard and you’ll see the studio outbuilding. David will be there, ready to go. If you have any troubles finding things or are running late, call or text David at 604 727 2429.

After Your Consultation
-
That’s up to you! The amount of time between sessions depends on how quickly you work. This is different for every artist but most leave 3-4 months between sessions. This allows time for you to consider and begin work on the recommendations you were given.
You don’t need to accomplish all the recommendations or complete a recommendation before you meet with your consultant again. It’s often beneficial to have a session when you’re part way through so you can discuss how things are evolving for you and make adjustments to your plans as needed.
Should you wish to meet more frequently, we typically recommend no sooner than 6 weeks between meetings. With this frequency, 30-min meetings are ideal.
-
It depends how quickly you’d like to see your consultant. Planning ahead is ideal as both Pennylane’s and David’s calendars often fill up quite far in advance.
For a 60-min consultation, you can anticipate a 2-4 week wait to meet with David and an approximately 4-6 week wait to meet with Pennylane. We can often accommodate a 30-min consultation sooner than a 60-min meeting.
-
Please contact us through our Contact Form to book your consultation.
In the message field, you may note: • the month when you’d ideally like to see your consultant
• if there are any times, dates, or days of the week that may not be a fit for you.Our Administrator typically replies within 2 business days with a date and time when your preferred consultant is available to meet with you.
